After sharing Kristofer and Alyssa’s engagement session, we couldn’t wait to see their Memphis Central Station wedding. When we saw the images of their wedding we were not disappointed!
Bright colors, fun Memphis venue, and lots of cool details like fabric flowers. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
Memphis Central Station Wedding
Central Station
First, how fun is Central Station in Memphis as a wedding venue? It’s a great venue not only for your wedding reception but the photos with your wedding party.
Love Story
Alyssa shared her engagement story before but it was so cute we had to share again! She recounts the experience:
“Kristofer and I met at a tacky sweater Christmas Party that he organized for the Young Adult ministry affiliated with the church where he works and where I grew up going. I had just moved home from college and got a job working at another church in the area.
At the Christmas Party, I asked if he would meet with me sometime to talk about ministry and we ended up meeting for breakfast at I-HOP. After we discussed work and ministry, he then asked me out on a date that weekend.
We saw each other almost every day after that and grew close very quickly. Our first outing as an official couple was at a wedding and the first time that Kristofer told me that he loved me was at a wedding. We became so comfortable with each other so quickly that we started discussing marriage only a couple of months into our relationship.
In July of 2012, after we had been dating for about 6 months, Kristofer and I went to Dallas, TX to visit some of my extended family and to attend his friend’s wedding. The morning after the wedding, he asked if we could go see Southern Methodist University on the way to church because he heard it was really pretty he hadn’t been there before. We walked around campus and sat down on a bench next to a big fountain where he proposed!
Then we walked to the chapel on campus where my whole family was waiting for us. This chapel also happened to be the place where my aunt and uncle got married and I was the flower girl. “
Planning A Memphis Wedding
Alyssa also shared her wedding planning experience:
“Wedding planning began on our drive home from Dallas as I began to compile a guest list. We realized very quickly that we were going to have a huge wedding if we wanted to include all of our family and friends!
My parents gave me a budget of $20,000 which seemed like a lot to me at first, but when you have over 400 people planning on coming to your wedding that money goes very quickly. Since we knew we were going to spend so much money on food and alcohol for our guests, I tried to cut costs in other areas like flowers.
I’ve never been a huge fan of cut flowers because even though they are so beautiful, they are expensive and die very quickly. When I saw a photograph of a bouquet of flowers made out of different fabrics, I knew I wanted to try to make my own flowers for my wedding.
I spent hours upon hours cutting, sewing and gluing different fabrics to create 14 bouquets and 14 boutonnieres for ourselves, our wedding party, and important family members.”
Wedding Ceremony & Reception
Alyssa shares more about the big day and how perfectly it fit the couple:
“Our wedding day was perfect. The ceremony was beautiful in the 100-year-old sanctuary of St. John’s United Methodist Church in midtown Memphis, and the reception was so much fun at Central Station downtown.
My favorite moments were spent on the dance floor. Kris and I both love to dance, and our first kiss was actually shared on a dance floor at Alfred’s on Beale Street on New Years 2012.
For our first dance at the wedding, we started off slow with Harry Connick Jr.’s “It Had to be You,” but then surprised our guests with Justin Timberlake’s “My Love” to liven things up a bit! We also had a blast dancing with family and friends throughout the evening. “
