How did you get started in wedding planning?
We had a great experience working together to plan my own wedding, so we knew it would be an exciting, fun career to pursue. However, I lived in New York City as a newlywed, so we weren’t living in the same city. {Patti was living in our hometown, Memphis.}
Patti was a R.N. in Memphis and New Jersey before she settled down in her hometown of Memphis and started a family… 3 children, born three consecutive years! (I’m pretty sure if you can juggle a 1, 2 and 3-year-old at the same time with a husband who traveled for work, then I’m pretty sure you can handle almost anything!)
I worked in broadcast journalism in NYC before returning to Memphis. But once my husband and I moved back home, my mom and I decided to go for it! It was the perfect time for us… I had always considered a career in wedding and event planning, and we both had some experience. Mom and I work really well together, and we love working with people. We’re both creative individuals, and we feed off of each other’s creativity. Plus, we’re both extremely organized and efficient.

What’s your process? What can brides expect on the day?
We handle all of the details and logistics from start to finish. We don’t want you to have to worry or stress about a single detail.
What tips can you give brides and grooms currently planning a wedding?
Even if you don’t hire a full planner, consider hiring a “weekend of” coordinator to orchestra the ceremony and reception, coordinate with vendors and ensure that the wedding day runs smoothly. Delegate those “weekend of” and “day of” tasks to a coordinator.
What’s your favorite part of a wedding?
This is a tough one! But some of our favorite moments are the following:
- Lighting the candles at the ceremony and reception, because lighting the candles is one of the last things we do before guests arrive. And there’s an excitement in the air that the wedding celebration is about to begin. After all of the planning and thought put into the day and details, it’s finally time… It’s exciting to know that all of the bride and groom’s family and friends who have traveled near and far are about to walk through the doors to celebrate their marriage.
- And following up with that, I think another fun and exciting moment is when (and if) the bride can see her guests entering the church or ceremony site, from a window perhaps. It’s exciting to watch the bride’s face light up as she watches her guests arrive for her special day. Because at the end of the day, the bride and groom just want their guests to be present, to celebrate with them and to enjoy themselves.
- A few more of our favorite moments are the first kiss, the introduction at the church of “Mr. and Mrs.” for the first time, the introduction of the bride and groom at the reception, the first dances, and the bride and groom’s departure are always special.
