We recently covered 2014 wedding trends and now we want to take a look at what is happening in our own Mid-South wedding community. We asked local wedding planners what trends they were seeing emerge this year in Memphis weddings.
Memphis Wedding Trend: Glamour
“I love that I’m seeing couples go back to glamour. The niche weddings for barns, vintage, etc. are going away and couples are choosing lush florals and contemporary linens. They do all this while not going to a Black Tie formality necessarily. It’s a relaxed glamour that still speaks to who they are as a couple.”
Memphis Wedding Trend: Seasonal Wedding Celebrations
“Brides are letting the season in which they’re marrying drive some of their decisions. For example, in the fall, brides are using the bold fall colors and fall foliage in their wedding florals, and they’re serving pumpkin or spice flavored cake. In winter, brides are using winter colors like that beautiful winter white and grays in their floral arrangements along with natural elements like pinecones, and some are incorporating gold or silver to bring in that holiday sparkle. During the summer, brides are using colorful pinks, oranges and yellows in their florals, and they’re serving up cool and refreshing lemonade with a splash of liquor.”

Memphis Wedding Trend: Family & Fun
“There are two main trends I see emerging with our fabulous Southern belles: Family and Fun!
Many brides are finding ways to combine their family and their ceremonies in spiritual ways. I have found that they have parents and/or grandparents that are minsters and who are willing to take an active role in their ceremonies. By doing this, they feel they are creating an everlasting bond with their family on their special day.
Secondly, the need to boogie has increased dramatically as a requirement for a memorable wedding! Our brides are wanting less formal receptions and more fun to celebrate their big day! This includes more dancing, theme music (think 80’s), selfie picture stations and interactive booths! No longer will guests toast, eat and leave. Now they will toast, eat and dance until the lights go off!”
Memphis Wedding Trend: Old Memphis Architecture
“I am seeing many of my brides move away from the formal “ball room” and showcasing the southern charm of old Memphis. There are many old buildings being renovated and today’s bride is using this to the fullest extent. This is very exciting to me having a background in architecture! These spaces create a much more intimate mood for your special day.”
Memphis Wedding Trend: Vintage Decor
“Honestly, the biggest trend I am seeing is that more and more people are using vintage furniture and decor in their event designs. From photo booths, sign in tables to furniture vignette, people are using unique furniture pieces to make their events unique and different from others. Luckily for us we have a great company in Memphis that offers these items, Propcellar!”
